Yeah, kinda late, but whatever.
We're doing good ol' Afterburn in this tourney, and I'm giving my Hulk Hogan design a run for the money.
The participants (7 in total):
Rene Dupree
Batista
Matt Hardy
Vince McMahon
Rob Van Dam
Hulk Hogan x2
Yeah, I was going against diversity, but bleh, I was confident.
Round 1:
vs. Batista
Kind of a tough match since half of my deck was grapples, but I luckily get Hogan's Patented Overhand Punch and get that sucker through. Soon enough, I was hitting some Atomic Lariats, but the game dragged on into forever because we were both recovering and reversing a lot. I was little on Arsenal but a couple Backed by Teddys and I was back in the game and finished him off with the Leg Drop.
Result: Pin 1-0
Round 2:
vs. Rene Dupree (in AFTERBURN?!)
Well, I was playing against none other than Anthony Escobar in this match and I knew this was going to be a retarded encounter because this deck was no push-over, but I was lucky enough to get rid of his Don't Try This At Home early game, doing tons of ACEs to get an early advantage. But he was able to push a lot of maneuvers through, giving him plenty of fortitude. But again thanks to Backed by Teddy Long, I was able to keep up with his recovery ability, and throwback Say Your Prayers slowed him down greatly, too. One of the highlights of the match, Hulkin' Up his Le Bonsoir, lol. Eventually he drew out and I kept refusing the countout until I got a maneuver through.
Result: Pin 2-0
Round 3:
vs. Vince McMahon
This is my worst match-up. I've played it before and it always seems to out-draw me no matter what I do. I try my best to get maneuvers through, but he always has a reversal. He just womps me, plain and simple, and I take a loss. I hate you JSD.
Result: Loss 2-1
Despite the loss and the diversity rule, I'm still in the top 4 at seat 2.
Semi-Finals:
vs. Matt Hardy
I was scared of this deck, mainly because I didn't know what it was all about. But I played my usual pre-match, went for the hogan's punch, got reversed, his turn, scoop slam. I'm like... shit... and I take it, but to my surprise, he had no high risk to follow up. This is when it got interesting, as I started to get my maneuvers through simply because he didn't want to discard cards. I thought this was a big mistake on his part and ultimately costed him the match. Eventually I whittled him down with actions and finished him off... though I forgot how...
Result: Pin 3-1
Finals:
vs. Vince McMahon
Now I had a feeling I would be seeing this damned deck again. But this time was different, he forgot to use First Family to get rid of one of my Old School Psychologys (I play 3 of them), and at an early point in the match, he had three cards in hand, and wanted to play Panic Throw + Kick (TB), but he would have to discard his hand, and the Kick, to play the Panic, and that's when he (and I) noticed he made that mistake. It was basically a beat down from there on my part since he couldn't do much to reverse anything I was throwing, and I eventually won the game via Hogan's Punch.
Result: Pin 4-1
Even if it was a fluke, mark another King's tourny victory on my record! I'm actually very happy with my Hogan design. Might need a few tweaks here and there, but it's a pretty smooth deck. I might play it at the Last Chance Qualifier... idk, I'll probably test a few other ideas I had in mind before making a definite decision.
