It was another week at Kings comics and another Raw Deal Afterburn tourny to settle. I was torn between two decks that were particularly good; Jake the Snake and Evolution. When I heard that Anthony was playing Jake, I decided to be diverse and chose Evolution. There were 11 people today! W00t!
Participants:
Largest Athelete in Sports... x2
Jake the Snake (RawManiac)
Eugene
"Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase
The Bookerman
Matt Hardy
X-treme Diva
Carlito
D-Von Dudley (wtf?)
Evolution
Yeah, freaking D-Von. This crowd was all over the place when it came to tech, so I figured I was in for a semi-rough tourny.
Round 1:
BYE
Yeeeeeeah, the BYE is good in the first round. Cha-ching!
Result: Pin 1-0
Round 2:
vs. Eugene
Eugene is Eugene, but the player who was playing as him was the part that scared me, also that I'm a Heat deck and my Headstrongs can't touch a good 95% of his maneuvers. Luckily my tech dropped him down to 2 cards in his starting hand so I started wailing on him. He might've reversed one maneuver the entire match. Also, at one point he played Hogan's Patented Punch and all I had was a Revolution to reverse with, so I played it in hopes of drawing another reversal and top decked an Elbow. Pure luck.
Result: Pin 2-0
Round 3:
vs. Largest Athlete
Okay, I knew this match was going to be tough, but it could've been sooooo much easier if I remembered one thing, and I'll tell you that one thing later on. He's a Major Announcement deck, playing Abdominal Stretches and Figure Four Leg Locks. Simple but very effective. We start beating on each other and I couldn't draw a reversal early game. Mid-to-late game I start drawing nearly every reversal in my deck. I get him for the pin and I could've lost if he remembered about his PPV Main Event stip. Then again, I could've easily won if I remembered my own mistake...
Result: Pin 3-0
Well, there was a lot of 2-1 records so we decided to have another round to shave some off.
Round 4:
vs. X-treme Diva
I was worried at first because... well... you know, Evolution vs. X-treme Diva? It's a mill fest. To my benefit he didn't really pack enough reversals for my aggro Heat ways and her ability couldn't keep up with all my hard hitting maneuvers. It was a landslide of a match.
Result: Pin 4-0
Semi-Finals:
vs. Eugene
A rematch and he was mortified to play against me again. It was the same deal again, but this time, by complete luck (I swear) I drew all 3 Revolutions in my starting hand. And again I dominated the match, not to mention I played a Revolution against Hogan's Patented Punch and I drew an Elbow off it again. I'm not complaining, but did I make a deal with the devil that I didn't know about?
Result: Pin 5-0
Finals:
vs. Jake the Snake
Somewhat of a scary match due to Jimmy and a great ability. However, OMFGZORES, I REMEMBERED I HAVE A FLAIR ABILITY (I didn't perform it the whole day) thanks to Anthony Escobar and I got rid of Jimmy so he can only use it once. Sucker Punch got around it though and I usually had two reversals for his maneuvers and every time I used one or he used his ability to get rid of one, I'd get one more. Not to mention I started out with 3 Headstrongs in my Ringside pile (once again, I swear it was dumb luck). In the end, I pulled off a clean victory and went undefeated all day! W00t!
Result: Pin 6-0
So yeah, turns out having a Flair ability is a good thing. I can't believe I forgot about it the whole day (until the last match) and still went undefeated. If I remembered about that in my LAiSE match I would've wiped the floor with him (well, at least have less of a headache). And I love this Evolution design. It's not cheap and can go against almost any deck. I'll post it up soon enough so everyone can take a look.
MVPoD (Most Valued Play of the Day) goes to Anthony Escobar (RawManiac) though. In his Semi-Finals match against LAiSE, he was in trouble as LAiSE had a hand full of reversals and all of Anthony's DDTs were in the Ringside. After performing his ability to check for Action reversals he plays The Snake Will Always Bite Back, getting 8 DDTs, shuffling 8 cards and removing 8 cards from LAiSE's deck which was full of his Unique reversals. Everybody who was watching literally groaned in shear pain and Anthony went on to pick up the win. It was awesome.
