I was hoping we'd have a legal tournament that we could report this week, but I guess Super Jew still doesn't have any money to play, and no word from a few of the other people we might have been expecting either. So it was our core group of 6 usual players for our first Afterburn format tournament. Superstars played:
Edge
The Game
The Undertaker
Shane'O Mac
Christian
The People's Champ (me)
We played regular swiss and cut to top four even though there were only six of us. We still wanted to keep it interesting and since it wasn't sanctioned, we usually just decided on Swiss or Double elim based on how we feel that week.
Round 1: TPC vs. Shane'O Mac (Kenneth M.)
I don't think there was much to note about this match. It went back and forth a little, but I kept reversing pretty much everything that he'd throw at me and funny thing was I played a Left Cross Punch (no Nuks in play) and it went through, then a Right, then a Left, and then he finally overturned a reversal on the 2nd Right I played. Eventually I think I played a European Uppercut and he overturned a Step Aside on his last card, but I took the count out becuase I didn't have much left in my hand and didn't want to risk having to go through his PPV Main Event.
Result 1-0 (2 pts.)
Round 2: TPC vs. The Game (Ken C.)
This was a pretty bad game for KC ... one turn kill. Through various things I saw his hand and set up my hand pretty good (even though it was -4 due to his prematch). He doesn't have anything to reverse with in his hand but just in case I pop my Shades, Title into Brass Nuks. Not reversed on the overturn. I drop my Elbow Pad and string together all of my Cross Punches for a total of more than 45 damage. He's still barely alive and I use That's Broken to grab a European Uppercut and finish him off. He was really pissed to say the least. I honestly didn't think I'd ever be able to pull off that combo, but I got supremely lucky.
Result 2-0 (5 pts.)
Round 3: TPC vs. Edge (Herber L.)
This past week we've been testing different AB decks, and Herber's Edge was the deck to beat for sure. This game, I drew a pretty bad hand and I don't think I even got any fortitude out because I didn't know about the new ruling on Judo Takedown. I got beatdown and I think I eventually lost to a Million Dollar Smiled trademark.
Result 2-1 (5 pts.)
So we cut to top 4 and I'm 3rd seat.
Semi-Finals: TPC vs. Christian (Wilson M.)
I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I think I just drew really good this game and he drew really bad. I hit my initial 5F and then just started playing actions until I got through his Volleys and Shades. All the while I was steadily reversing his mass amounts of strikes. Finally I figured I got through his action reversals and I played my Elbow Pad and picked up some fortitude. I think I then reversed with either the People's DDT or a Power Slam which hurt him pretty bad. Next I picked up my Elbow Pad and played it again. So I play a Suicide Strike which goes all the way through for 20D and he has a few cards left, but I noticed he was packing Quick Reflexes and not Steps so I followed up with a 10D Superkick for the win.
Result 3-1 (8 pts.)
Finals: TPC vs. Edge (Herber L.)
Damn, I was hoping Anthony would wipe out Herber in the other Semi-Finals and give me an easier match; no such luck. This time around I drew a better hand, and I think he drew a bad hand. I'm not sure if he had a DTTAH in his starting hand because I got some fortitude on the table. It went back and forth for a bit while I was trying to plow through his hand and action reversals, hoping to get my Elbow Pad on the table, but I just couldn't ... he still had reversals when I went for the Elbow Pad . I think I finally got a Commish through and saw he didn't have much in his hand, so I played a Suicide Strike to get me up into Rock Bottom range in case I got lucky and drew it. The Suicide Strike was actually pretty damaging to him, but he did reverse twice on the overturn. I think the next few turns he passed and I just drew a couple more reversals until finally I got the Patented Rock Footstomp (TB) and played it for the win. He had about 4 cards left and I saw he overturned at least 2 Steps to the Suicide Strike, so I knew it would go through.
Result 4-1 (11 pts.)
Wow, I can't believe I beat Edge. Nor can I believe I won with TPC since it was my first time ever playing him. I picked up a WWE Championship Belt (which will now be up for trade, or go on e-bay soon) and I bought the final SS3 pack with my store credit. Turns out I pulled a foil Brass Nuks and a regular Brass Nuks which I put into my deck right away instead of those ugly SS2 Brass Nuks I had in there, lol.
