Well, this was our second week with 2 new guys playing, and I have to say it's been a pleasure having new competition. And they really are pretty good players, not some boring n00bs to just pound on; I almost lost to both of them in the tournament ... but more of that to come.
So it was Afterburn, and all I had was Stacy (which I knew wouldn't work the way I wanted it too, and I subsequently found out She's Got Legs isn't AB legal anyway), so I wanted to make a new deck. I chose Eddie, just for kicks and since I hadn't built him in a long time. I built the deck in about 1 hour Saturday night and wanted to revise and check it out Sunday morning, but that never happened, so I just went with what I had.
Superstars played:
Vince McMahon x2
Phenom
Torrie Wilson
Shelton Benjamin
Lita
John Cena
Eddie Guerrero (me)
Round 1: Eddie vs. Vince (Ralph P.)
I was a little concerned cause I had no idea where his deck was going ... I saw some heat cards and thought he'd just plow through my reversals, but then he was only like half heat ... interesting build. Mostly I was fearfull of that silly card Comeback ... and sure enough he tried to play it at least twice, but luckily for me I was able to reverse and eventually I pinned with a high risk I believe.
Result 1-0 (3 pts.)
Round 2: Eddie vs. Phenom (Jonathan D.)
I had no idea what to expect from him ... from what I saw in the prematch he wasn't heat. And I from all the overturning I did, I lost all of my recovery cards, so I was worried from the start with about 15 overturned and 7 in hand ...
First turn he plays That's Broken and I respond with Volley This and Whatchoo Talkin' About Ese. I go Suplex into Flying Clothesline and pick up some quick fortitude. Turns go by as I reverse his stuff and can't pull much else together and then I hit Atomic Lariat and Guerrero Frog Splash for some more damage, but he's still alive. By then my entire backlash deck was nuked because of You're Gonna Pay and I wasn't drawing anything amazing either. He was starting to make a comeback as I ran out of reversals and I almost walked into a Spinebuster that I forgot he had from the beginning of the game that probably would have been the end of me. Luckily I forgot to check my ringside for that Shoot Headlock to play and he played some action which I reversed with Volley This and pinned him with. Phew ... great match.
Result 2-0 9 (6 pts.)
Round 3: Eddie vs. Shelty B (Wilson M.)
I got crazy lucky in this game ... he just didn't draw maneuvers. He hit a Panic Grab/Strangle Hold second turn, but then that was it. He couldn't draw anything and I was just reversing what little he did play. Again I started with a move into Flying Clothesline, then next turn Atomic into Frog Splash, but I started to stall out again. Luckily I drew Study for your GED and he didn't have any action reversals which was his downfall. I played Keibler Instincts, then next turn used A Few Heel Men to kill some reversals and played a Wheel Barrow Slam for the win.
Result 3-0 (9 pts.)
Semi-finals: Eddie vs. John Cena (Anthony E.)
I really though him killing the beat would hurt me bad ... somehow it didn't; don't ask me how. I had one Taunt to play, but then I drew my starting hand and it was really good and I didn't need to Taunt. Crazy. So things happen and he isn't drawing maneuvers while I just pound on him with some Atomics and High Risks, then he has no cards left in deck, but I have no reversals left in my hand, so I took the count out to avoid any kind of comeback on his part.
Result 4-0 (11 pts.)
Finals: Eddie vs. Lita (Herber L.)
Lita was the scariest match of the day with all of her silly shenanigans. He played smart and I kind of screwed up in the beginning of the game. He got a dropkick in real fast because of his Title on the Line. Then sure enough he draws Lita's DDT too. Sigh, I just go with it and happen to reverse on the first card with Outta Play, good times. After that I guess he had a bad hand. I was playing stuff and it was just going through. Once I got past his Over Sells, I finally hit a High Risk and I think that really put him in a bad way. He was trying to recover, but I had built up a nice hand of reversals while he was passing becuase he wasn't playing maneuvers for some reason. Eventually I think I play Commish, Clutch and then Flying Clothesline for the win.
Result 5-0 (14 pts.)
WTF!!! An untested Eddie deck goes 5-0! That was really random, I swear I should have lost to all of those match ups.
I just got really freakin' lucky and I don't know why. I guess I'd like to dedicate the win to all the victims of 9/11 and their families. While I know that my winning a Raw Deal tournament has absolutely nothing to do with 9/11, I guess it was on the back of my mind kind of all day.
Anyway, we opened the kit and turns out the sig was from Batista, which is pretty cool. Yay, finally a second sig, now I can make my Test deck for All Axxess. Sweetness.
