We kinda had a sad turn out this week, but we went ahead and played with only 6 guys anyway. Most everyone tried out something new, including myself; I played a completely untested deck that I built about 1/2 an hour before the tourney, so good times. Superstars played:
Junkyard Dog
RVD
Heidenreich
Leader of the Edge Army
Tajiri
Bobby Heenan (me)
Round 1: The Brain vs. JYD (Kenneth M.)
Well, obviously I chose Big Show as my enforcer and went from there. Lots of stuff happened, and for the life of me I couldn't draw any Escape Moves, so after I used Jimmy twice to slow him down I knew the pain was coming. He reversed his way into a German Suplex that I stopped on the overturn, and then next turn he threw an Atomic Driver which I oversold. Unfortuneately I forgot I had Big Show, so I took the full 12D and that pretty much cost me the game.
Result 0-1 (0 pts.)
Round 2: The Brain vs. Heidenreich (Wilson M.)
Well, it was an interesting match. We both kept reversing a lot of the stuff we were both playing and so it took me a while, but finally I got a little ahead of him. By the end of the game he finally got a maneuver off on me, but the next turn I finished him off with You Knew it Would End this Way. Phew, long and slow match.
Result 1-1 (3 pts.)
Round 3: The Brain vs. RVD (Anthony E.)
This is the same RVD that he played last time so I had an idea of what to expect. Unfortuneatly I couldn't find a Step Aside for the life of me, so it really kinda sucks when he plays lots of high damage strikes like Chair Shots and Lock Stock and Barrels. Not to mention he kept drawing tons of reversals to hold me off. Eventually, I just had to succumb to pain of lots of strikes.
Result 1-2 (3 pts.)
We wanted to play it like a regular swiss style to keep it interesting even though there were only 6 of us, so after the 3 rounds we cut to a top 4. I know that seems a bit lame, but it makes easier to divide up the prizes that way. And oddly enough, I made the top cut because of the people I lost to.
Semi-finals: The Brain vs. JYD (Kenneth M.)
Here we are same match as before; this time I vow not to forget about Big Show's very useful ability against JYD. This time I actually drew a lot of reversal against him and it turns out Back Fist is pretty good when his grapples only do 3D as well, so I had plenty of stuff to hold him off. Finally, I got worked him down to few enough cards to win by You Knew it Would End this Way once again.
Result 2-2 (6 pts.)
Finals: The Brain vs. LotEA (Herber L.)
Silly Herber and his most annoying of decks. There wasn't much to this game; it went slowly because he wasn't drawing many maneuvers to throw at me, nor was he drawing reversals, but he took full advantage of the volley effect so I was moving along kinda slowly at first to. Finally I got plenty of fortitude, but then I couldn't take advantage of it cause I couldn't draw Cold Cocked or Flurry of Strikes to keep the pressure on him. He managed to get out Price We Pay and Marking Out (TB) which is a supremely annoying combo, but that was way too late in the game to do him much good because I just kept removing the top 2. Eventually I waited him out until he had only a few cards left, but I couldn't remember if I saw Road to Victory in his backlash deck or not. I decided not to chance it and I waited a few more turns until he only had about 4 cards left and then I played You Knew it Would End this Way. Turns out he didn't have R2V so I picked up the pin.
Result 3-2 (9 pts.)
Woo! I won, so I got first picks of prizes. After seeing the signature I just had to take it. If it were almost any other sig or I had defeated any other player I would have taken Jimmy, but the sig was Lita and the player was Herber. I had to take the Lita just to torture Herber because Lita is all time favorite. Good times.
